Accessibility statement
Last updated 30 October 2026
TeachEd wants every student and teacher to be able to use our website and textbooks. We aim to meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 at Level AA.
What we have done
- Text and controls on the website meet colour contrast requirements. The textbook does too, apart from the few places listed under Known limitations.
- Every control works with a keyboard and shows a visible focus outline.
- Pages reflow to a single column on a phone and work at 400% zoom.
- Motion stops when your device asks for reduced motion, and the moving diagram has a pause button.
- Diagrams have text descriptions, and the interactive model's commentary is announced as it changes.
- Form fields have visible labels. Errors are described in words beside each field and announced by screen readers.
- The textbook uses Atkinson Hyperlegible, a typeface designed for readers with low vision, and readers can switch to Lexend or OpenDyslexic.
- In the textbook, readers can choose a colour theme (Light, High contrast, Warm or Dark), a larger text size and wider spacing, and maths is written as MathML.
How we test
Automated accessibility checks (axe) run as part of our test suite. We also test with a keyboard only, and with the VoiceOver (iPad and Mac) and NVDA (Windows) screen readers before major releases. Our first full screen reader test takes place before the site opens, and we will give its date here.
Known limitations
- The school enquiry form uses Cloudflare Turnstile to block automated submissions. If it asks you to complete a check and you cannot, email us instead.
- In the textbook's Light and Warm themes, the small progress line under each section's Progress tab ("0% complete") is just below the contrast WCAG asks for. In the Dark theme, the "Go to Section 1 Quiz" button at the end of each section's reading (and the same button in the other sections) has white text on light blue, which is hard to read.
- In the textbook's Warm theme, some orange figures in the models and the green "Data activity" labels are just below the contrast WCAG asks for. In the High contrast theme, the "Micro" label in the micro and macro diagram is hard to read.
